The fact is that with the majority of the Illinois casinos being located so close to the borders of Indiana, Missouri and Iowa – states that do not have any ban on smoking – it is difficult to compete. The once loyal patrons of the Illinois casinos are now turning their backs on them in order to enjoy their rights as a smoker.

There is a couple pretty cool theme parks and new in 2009 there is the new Freestyle Music Park. It was Hard Rock Park previously and was a great park then. It is now under new ownership and will have more than the last year. Nothing like riding a roller-coaster and then going to the beach to watch the sunset.

    

4. Shopping – Of course you are going to have your typical souvenirs and that can get old once you get a shirt or a couple hour glasses full of sand. But besides that they have great outdoor malls that have everything from shopping to night life all in the same area. Which can be fun once you run out of money or are tired of it you can always go and watch a show.

    

5. Broadway Type Shows – There are a number of good shows that are put on in Myrtle Beach. Everything from impersonators to regular shows like the Carolina Opry. A lot of the shows are centered around a more country theme, but it all goes with the territory.

    

6. The food – Now I know that a lot of people have different tastes when it comes to food choices. But if you are into either Southern style food or Seafood then you are in for a treat. Praise Good Italian Cooking

At a few of these farmhouses there are cookery classes and it’s here where I learned to cook Stracotto or ‘Pot Roast’. This a very popular weekend Sun. meal in Italy as well as in Great Britain and North America. The Italians serve it over a delicious noodles bed of pasta enriched with the Chianti wine sauce where the others serve it with potatoes. Here goes……

Stracotto ( serves 4-6 people ) 

- three to four lbs. Top round meat 

- 4 thinly sliced garlic cloves 

- 3 medium thinly cut carrots 

- 3 medium diced onions 

- rosemary leaves 

- 2 cut up celery stalks 

- 2 cups water 

- 1 lb. ripe tomatoes ( peel, seed and cut them ) 

- one 4th cup olive oil 

- 1 and a half cup Chianti or dry red wine 

- 1 tbsp. Liquified butter 

- one tbsp. flour 

- salt and pepper as you like 

- 1 lb. pasta of your choice

Roll and tie up meat and then make little holes to put the garlic into.

In a shallow pan, warm the oil and slowly cook the carrots, onions and celery till soft and add in the rosemary. Push these vegetables to one side and put the meat roll in the middle and brown on all sides at the same time as you are sautéing the veggies. Add in the tomatoes and when they are getting soft, add the wine. Boil until the wine liquid has been consumed to about one half cup and add one and a half cup of water and let cook for almost one hour more. Separate the beef and plants from the broth and let the beef cool. With remaining half cup of water mix the flour and the melted butter in with the broth and cook, continually stirring it for three mins. Cut beef and put the pasta and the sauce in the middle of the plate and 2 or 3 beef slices to one side and top with some more sauce if required. Bon appetite!
